When Women Vote: Women's Suffrage, Voter Access & Women's Representation featuring Amber McReynolds, Cynthia Richie Terrell, Marguerite Herman, and Rep. Andi Clifford

You know that we just celebrated the 150th anniversary of women's suffrage in Wyoming. You know that 2020 marks the centennial of the 19th amendment.

You also know that neither of those efforts recognized the rights of *all* women to vote. And you also know that *there are not enough women in office* across the nation. And there are *definitely* not enough women in office in Wyoming. (People. We got a "D" on the report card. What? You haven't been to school in a long time and neither have your kids? Let us remind you: That's bad.)

So, what happened?

How did Wyoming have so many firsts and basically no seconds? How did other Western states--Colorado, in particular--recognize early the importance of women voting and running and continue to foster and advance that? What did they do? What can we do?

Most importantly, how can we come together to make a difference right now?

We have answers! (A lot of it has to do with...spoiler alert...VOTING. When women vote, the world changes.)

Featuring panel members:

Amber McReynolds is one of the country’s leading experts on election administration and policy, and co-author of the book “When Women Vote.” Amber is the CEO for the National Vote At Home Institute and Coalition and is the former Director of Elections for Denver, Colorado. Her work proves that designing pro-voter policies and voter-centric processes, and implementing technical innovations will improve representation for all voters.

Cynthia Richie Terrell is the founder and executive director of RepresentWomen and a founding board member of the ReflectUS coalition of non-partisan women’s representation organizations. She is an outspoken advocate for innovative rules and systems reforms to advance women’s representation and leadership in the United States. 

Rep. Andi Clifford (HD33) is an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe. She is currently the assistant general manager of the Wind River Hotel and Casino where she has worked for more than a decade. She served as a Fremont County Commissioner, a Wyoming Humanities Council board member, and on the board of the Wind River Tribal College. She holds BS and MPA degrees from the University of Wyoming.

Marguerite Herman is a lobbyist for the League of Women Voters of Wyoming and has advocated on the local, state and national level in Wyoming for several other groups, including the PTA, US Breastfeeding Committee, American Cancer Society and the Advocates for School Trust Lands. She currently serves as a trustee for Laramie County School District #1. Marguerite wrote the most recent edition of the Wyoming LWV’s A Look at Wyoming Government.
